Is it News?

When it comes to news, today’s world is much different from the days of old.  The time when newspaper, radio and later the tv ruled the day and were the only sources of news are gone.  The internet and social media have changed both the way people get their news and who they get it from forever.

This has shown to be a double edge sword as the very real phenomenon of “fake news”  has taken the spotlight in American media.  While it’s always good to hear different opinions, opinion based on other opinions or emotional arguments are not fact.  News should be based on fact and facts alone. And the interpretation of the facts should be left up to the individual.  Now that false information is spread so easily it’s the individuals responsibility to ensure the news they take in is factual and accurate. While the previous statement was never a bad thing there was trust in the media to provide verified factual information. Sadly this is no longer the case. That said, the days of blindly believing the things you see, read or hear are definitely over.

So how did we get to this point?  From news organizations not being reliable enough to just report the facts - all the facts.  Many times they choose what information to share. They became biased, support certain positions or agendas or policies and push particular narratives often by over representing one ideology and under representing another.  They spin any bad press or even ignore contradictory evidence entirely.  They'll frame stories to purposely be misleading. They also often make big issues from unimportant events. They've lost their credibility and the public trust is broken.  Many people knew these things were going on for a long time, others chose to ignore it, but neither had options. When the internet offered a way to get news from a variety of sources with alternative views the people flocked to it.  After years of craving different ideological views, usually similar to their own, social media provided millions of liked minded people to connect with. Once the population embraced this platform the media again chose to use social media not to regain lost respect but to spread more false information. They chose the business model of presenting click bait for advertising dollars over genuine organic traffic from honest reporting. These moves have only led to even worse viewership, ratings and profits. Creating way for smaller fact based reporting to gain traction and reap the rewards by filling the voids left behind. These voids wouldn’t have existed had the mainstream media not let the public down repeatedly.  So while the mainstream media may complain about the situation they’re in today it is mostly their own fault.  You reap what you sow.

Coffee & News

Coffee and news seems so obvious a match that we never even think about it. The two go hand-in-hand.  In fact it's hardly worth mentioning.  Unless your goal is to point out this fact and see just what  caused it to become this way.

So how did that happen exactly?  It's almost expected even cliche to see people drinking coffee while reading the newspaper.  Considering that newspapers were traditionally delivered early in the morning and most people began their day by drinking coffee in the mornings, taking advantage of the caffeine in coffee, to help wake them up the two inevitably became forever married. You rise and brew a pot of coffee and grab the morning newspaper from the porch.  It became routine for generations.

Now that digital media has overtaken the printed newspaper and magazines we still drink coffee as we read or watch news stories.  But coffee too has evolved over time and is now sold in huge amount of variety by all kinds of vendors.  However the link between coffee and news has stayed the same.  Is it because old habits die hard or that maybe the alertness that coffee brings and the way it stimulates our brains encourages us crave or seek information and knowledge.  Whatever the case maybe the coffee & news combination will probably remain forever.

Why Buy Coffee Online?

A good question.  But easily countered with another - why not?  If you drink coffe enough to know you buy it a regular rate then buying coffee online isn't a bad idea.  It can be delivered to your door like any other monthly subscription.  This could be a great way to never run out.
Buying coffee online is easy and can even be ordered in bulk.  That's especially good for cafes and businesses alike.  It also allows for a larger selection and variety than retail off the shelf brands or blends and at the same price or cheaper.
Although there are also some very rare and highly expensive coffees, for the connoisseur in us all, that are not available in stores and offered only online.  Coffee can also make a great gift for the connoisseurs in your life.  Many online coffee shops like Sournut offer gift baskets with a variety of coffee blends inside. So the next time you need coffee consider buying it online.  We buy everything else online, why not coffee too?

A New Era in My Life - It is Sournut

UPDATE:  I have since discontinued Sournut.com and Sournut LLC.  It took to much of my time with very little payback.  That said, I will continue to find new ways to create a second income.  Stay tuned...

I have finally started a true ecommerce website after years of playing around and learning.

I went with Shopify as the platform because of their ease, support and success.
It was difficult choosing a niche but ultimately I settled on coffee and related products.  Why coffee?
Well it is a very huge industry and billions of people drink it everyday.  Some even argue it's the worlds second most traded commodity behind oil.  So it's safe to say that it isn't going anywhere, it's stable and even growing.  Also coffee opens the door to almost everything.  People drink coffee in many forms and flavors and while doing anything.  Great conversation and business deals happen over coffee.  Coffee dates are as common place nowadays as coffee houses and cafes.

Once our "cupping" process is over we will offer our own private label blends of coffee.  But in the meantime we will sell others and many other coffee related products.  Check us out at Sournut.com
